An office computer desk usually contains a few features that make them unique among desks. Most of them have at least one drawer, a keyboard shelf, and enough space to hold a computer monitor and stacks of papers all at once. While these are standard features separately in desks, office desks are best suited to maintain multitasking work habits comfortably. However, depending on your individual needs you may need different variations of this type of desk. Luckily, there are plenty to choose from.
If you work on the computer with multiple monitors, an office computer desk with an upper shelf to hold them would be much more convenient to use. One monitor can take up enough space -- two or three monitors can be even worse, especially if they are large. These are naturally more expensive than their more simple counterparts, but they are worth every penny if you are having trouble managing your paperwork with multiple monitors on your desk.
If you need more storage space than most desk models offer, an even larger computer desk with filing draws on one or each side may be enough to fulfill your needs. But if you are heavy paperwork-intensive a computer desk with a hutch might be an even better model for you. Any desk should be all about convenience, and the more convenient it is the more work you can get done in less time.
What an office computer desk is made of can affect, or even determine, how long that desk will last.
What you usually find at department or office supply stores are plywood desks and furniture. Plywood furniture is not very stable, and the material itself is very brittle. Desks made with plywood usually do not last more than a few years, mostly due to the fact that they begin to fall apart thanks to everyday wear and tear.
Steel models are significantly more stable than plywood, and in relation they are also more expensive. Many of those that are made of steel also come with glass see-though tops, which are stylish but not very good for everyday office work. Solid wood desks are more stable than both plywood and steel combined, and reflect that in their price. Though they may be the most expensive, they are also the best looking and the most durable. One wood desk will last you for decades.
There are too many variations of the standard office computer desk to even mention, and the type of work you do as well as the hours you are at the computer should really determine which styles would fit with your needs. If you are working on the computer for multiple hours a day, you most likely know all to well how important a convenient and sturdy desk can be.
